PVC dock boards stand up to busy resort usage

Three years have passed since the bustling resort refinished their 28 floating dock slips, but Ryan Chatwin, the site’s Property Relations Manager, says they still look the same as the day they were installed.

Prior to refinishing, the dock slips were made of pressure-treated wood. In a resort that gets constant foot traffic and pounding waves, damage was inevitable.

“The docks are used constantly from July to the end of August, and off-season as well,” Ryan says. To make matters worse, the resort is in an unprotected part of the lake that constantly bears the brunt of the wind and waves.

The resort wants to build a breakwall to reduce the damage caused by waves, but has yet to receive municipal planning approval. So they chose to invest in a material that could withstand the ongoing strain, while looking beautiful.

“It was our contractor who suggested replacing the wood with TIVADOK PVC dock boards,” says Ryan. “And I’d go with them again in a heartbeat.”

TIVADOK dock boards and TIVADEK deck boards are an innovative, patented line of PVC boards designed to look great for a lifetime.

Created by Terry Fangrad, owner of TIVA Building Products, these boards contain only the highest quality PVC, allowing them to be used year after year without staining or replacing any boards.

At the resort, the boards only require a spring power-washing to keep them looking fresh.

“They are very easy to maintain,” says Ryan.

Replacing the wooden dock boards was simple, thanks to an aluminum core hidden within each board allowing them to span up to 32 inches on center.

TIVA’s products are solid boards built with an advanced carbon nanotechnology core, to make the strongest, most stable PVC decking boards on the market. They’re covered with ASA (acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate) capstock — a tough and rigid plastic that’s UV and water-resistant, even in the harshest weather conditions.

“ASA is well known in the automotive industry for its heat resistance, colour retention, and durability,” says Terry. “While it’s built to withstand heat, sun, insects, and Canadian winter extremes, it’s also designed to look and feel like real wood.”

TIVA’s collections include natural woodgrain finishes with a wide selection of contemporary colours, like pure white and the industry’s first true black PVC.

“We went with a grey finish, which we accented with black bumpers and cleats,” says Ryan. “It’s great knowing they won’t fade or require staining.”

Unlike traditional deck boards, which typically last 10-15 years, TIVADOK and TIVDADEK materials are covered by a lifetime warranty, and a 50-year warranty which includes fading and staining.

“With a premium product like this, you can rest assured that your deck and dock will last for many seasons to come,” says Terry.
