Water Depot

Lake water can be made potable with the right treatment system

Turning on the taps and seeing yellow water pour out is a significant issue for many home and cottage owners. Others must deal with the unappealing prospect of metallic-tasting, brown water.

But all these problems are avoidable.

The yellow or murky water is caused by a build-up of tannins and sediments, which are commonly found in lake and well water; the rusty water is iron-rich.

“Each of these issues requires its own water treatment or filter system,” explains Eric Dube of Water Depot. “While UV systems will treat the water for microorganisms and pathogens like e. Coli and other coliforms, they don’t address other pertinent issues our clients face.”

Eric and Nicole Blanchet own Water Depot locations in Bracebridge, Barrie, and Parry Sound. Their teams have treated a wide array of potable water issues throughout Central Ontario.

Tannins are organic substances that can tint the water yellow or brown and impact its taste. And if tannins and sediments are not removed before entering a UV system, they can build up and make the UV light ineffective.

Meanwhile, iron-rich water has a bad odour and can leave stains in sinks and toilets. It also can negatively impact pipes and fixtures, as iron deposits will build up and cause clogging.

Eric and his team only advise their clients to get exactly what they need to have potable water in their homes or cottages. They know having the right system in place is essential for their clients.

Water Depot offers no-charge, on-site inspections, and water analysis to give cottagers an extensive report on what they do and don’t need to achieve safe drinking water at their property.

“A lot of homes and cottages have a combination of issues that need to be addressed,” Eric says. “That’s why we do a thorough inspection to test the water. Once we determine what filters and treatment are needed, we professionally install a system that will provide clean, safe drinking water straight from your taps.”

The right path
Once the right treatment plan is determined, the experts from Water Depot ensure that everything is installed at the proper point in the water system. “If the order of operations isn’t right, you can end up with water that looks clean but still carries health risk,” says Eric.

It’s this type of attention to detail that has provided safe and clean tap water to many homes and cottages throughout the region.
