Muskoka Pest Control

Protect your cottage

Battling the forces of nature attempting to infiltrate your home or cottage requires a combination of knowledge, guile, and determination.

Native species like mice, carpenter ants, spiders, wasps and hornets, flies, earwigs, and various rodents and mammals can all find their way into your buildings.

“Not all of them want to be there, however we tend to attract certain species that are looking for shelter or food,” explains Mark Sampson of Muskoka Pest Control. “Knowing where to look to find the different types of pests, understanding why they’re in your home or cottage, and then planning the solution is part and parcel of being a true local pest control expert.”

For example, carpenter ants are attracted to damp wood where they can build a nest and tunnels to live.

“Carpenter ants can become a big problem because by the time you know they’re there, a lot of damage to your structure may have already been done,” warns Mike Sampson, Mark’s son and partner.

Meanwhile, mice usually try to winter in homes and cottages and can fit themselves through the tiniest cracks – 6 mm is all they need.

“Mice, and other rodents like rats, are not only disease-carrying animals, but they can be extremely dangerous when they get in,” Mark explains. “They are quite fond of chewing on wiring behind the walls, which can cause short circuits and even electrical fires.”

Being surrounded by the trees, grass, flowers, lakes, and rivers also means living with the wildlife that calls those natural areas their home.

This is why Mike suggests getting on their year-round pest control maintenance plan. Muskoka Pest Control professionals will visit once each season to manage unwanted visitors and prevent infiltrations.
