Custom-designed awnings and covers keep the sun at bay

No matter what time of year you’re in Muskoka, you want to be outside enjoying the surroundings. But we don’t go out unprotected: we wear sunglasses, sunhats, and sunscreen to block harmful UV rays, and raincoats and umbrellas to stay dry when it’s raining.

It makes sense, then to offer similar protection to our valuable boats, cars, and outdoor furniture.

Cantilevered awnings, dock slip covers, and car shelters are a cost-efficient way to protect your belongings – keeping them shaded and dry, and preventing excess sun exposure from fading wood, plastic, upholstery and fibreglass.

“With boats, sun exposure heats up the seats, fades the upholstery and causes it to dry out and crack,” says Lindsay McCready, sales coordinator for Aquadome, a Muskoka-based company which manufactures and installs a wide range of awnings and covers. “Vehicles have a similar reaction when out in the sun too long.”

When it rains – or even in a heavy dew – moisture can seep into hidden places where harmful mould, mildew and rot will occur. The awnings and covers also provide a sheltered sitting area for people.

“You’ve invested a lot of time and money in your boat, cars and furniture,” says Lindsay. “Make sure they’re well-protected.”
