Mother Nature is her own supermodel, especially in the Bala region. Jeff Overbeek and his team at Bedrock Landscapes give that model some makeup, offering their clients the best of local materials and a deep grasp of how to integrate hardscape features with nature herself.
Jeff has been in business since 2002, and hardscaping is his central passion. “We focus on features like walkways, staircases, retaining walls, patios,” he explains. “We work on new builds and very frequently on existing local properties that need a retrofit or update.”
Durable Muskoka granite is the material of choice: it offers visual tranquility and a respectful nod to the land that cottagers and year-round residents call home.
Jeff happily engages prospective clients in a conversation about their needs on a given piece of property. That conversation explores traffic patterns to and from main buildings to docks, garages, and bunkies; sunlight hours and seasons of use; and whether the main use will be primarily daytime, nighttime, or a mix.
“The property owner knows their landscape the best,” says Jeff, “I’m interested in how to get the most out of the space while making it look amazing. If they hire us to do that after we chat, great.”
He grew up in Muskoka – working on local cranberry marshes, and later spending three years working in a cranberry marsh in Nova Scotia, where construction and landscaping were part of the job. Eventually he returned home and started Bedrock Landscapes.
He and his brother Ron run a crew who are renowned for their ability to adapt jobs to the demands of the land. Hardscaping is hard physical work, but it also requires painstaking attention to detail.
Creative solutions, such as flagstone patios with built-in granite fire pits, eliminate the need for high-maintenance wooden decking. No staining required, and no rot. You’ll feel a definite connection with your surroundings, and as an added bonus, fire safety is greatly enhanced.
Bedrock Landscapes still has a few openings this season and is already booking for next season. Jeff himself will take your call and provide the consultation. That small-town personal service, combined with years of experience, is why Bedrock has such a loyal following.
“We love what we do,” says Jeff. “And we love doing it right here.”
