Deerhurst Highlands

Iconic course celebrating 35 years of excellence

One of Canada’s most iconic golf courses is celebrating it’s 35th anniversary this year.

Deerhurst Highlands has long been a must on any golfer’s shortlist of courses to tackle: both professionals and amateurs have long admired the picturesque setting and challenging design.

The pure Muskoka scenery features plenty of the natural look that makes the region famous: granite outcrops, ponds surrounded by wildlife, tall pines, and more.

With the anniversary comes improvements to the historic course. The third hole was renovated last year, and the seventh hole is scheduled for a renovation this year, and irrigation and drainage have both been upgraded.

The management team at Deerhurst Highlands says these upgrades are a way of giving an anniversary gift to golfers, bringing the course back to its championship level.

“We offer a pro-level course, but with a wide array of playability,” says Andrew Nieder, Senior Director of Golf for Freed Hotels & Resorts. “Our tee decks have six different options that allow for all levels of golfer to really enjoy their experience.”

Other amenitiesBut one cannot forget that after golf, there are three fantastic restaurants where you can partake in a delicious meal and beverage. The chefs at Eclipse, Maple, and Compass restaurants on the resort property are ready to create flavourful dishes to delight the senses.

“One of the best things about golfing at Deerhurst is the access to the resort’s facilities,” says Andrew. “Not only are there fantastic restaurants, but there are plenty of other amenities for our members to enjoy as well.”

Members have access to a great waterfront area that includes paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and more.

Plus, as part of the new Freed Golf Membership program, a Deerhurst Highlands membership provides access to four other courses, including the executive-sized Lakeside course at Deerhurst Resort, as well as reciprocal privileges at Muskoka Bay Resort and Horseshoe Resort. Members also receive a ski pass to Horseshoe to continue adventuring all winter long.

“The added value of access to the other great properties is another amazing reason to become a Highlands member this season and beyond,” explains Andrew. “Members now have year-round opportunities for exceptional experiences.”
