Mike's Landscaping

Vision and execution transform a cottage property

People will often overuse the term “wow factor” when describing something they really love. However, it is fitting when referring to a recently completed Mike’s Landscaping cottage project.

The sheer size of the job is enough to elicit that response: over 2.5 acres of landscaping, 5,000 square feet of flagstone, steps that gently make their way to the waterfront, patios and lounges, a tremendous water feature, fire pits, and more. It’s a prime example of the scope of work the team at Mike’s Landscaping can effectively produce for their clients.

“This was a great project to work on because it allows us to help find a solution to our clients’ needs as well as being creative with the design,” says Mike Welsh, owner of Mike’s Landscaping. “They were extremely happy with the results.”

One of the major items was ensuring that the waterfront was easily accessible for family members of all ages. They accomplished this by creating large steps that gradually take you to the lake while still following the curve of the land.

Not only is the landscaping functional, but it provides excellent curb appeal as well. This can be a boost to ROI, property value, and of course it enhances the scenery for the owners.

“It’s also very important to have your property looking the best when entertaining family and friends,” says Dylan Welsh, Mike’s son. He and his sister, Brooklyn Radtke help operate the business. “This could mean adding beautiful walkways, a granite patio, or other features to take your outdoor spaces to another level.”

Custom pieces
One of the most stunning elements of the property is a water feature that is the centrepiece to a roundabout at the remote cottage.

The team used large granite boulders from the property itself. As tall as an average person, they are accented with other types of stone. The result is a piece that looks like it was there all along, and the driveway was built around it. Irrigation was added in the most efficient area.

“It’s exciting when our clients come to us with special requests like this one,” explains Brooklyn. “The first question usually asked is ‘can it be done?’ And more often than not, the answer is a yes!”

They also make sure to work with the environment as much as possible, rather than against it.

“We craft pathways, patios, fire areas, and other hardscaping features so that they flow with the land, not against it,” explains Brooklyn.

Client journey
Mike started Mike’s Landscaping 25 years ago and he has been creating stunning projects ever since: their team provides high-end landscape design, construction and maintenance services.

But, more than the technical aspects of their work, they take pride in providing an exceptionally high level of service, from the initial phone call to the completed project.

Not only will you be assured of a real person in the Huntsville office picking up the phone (or calling you back if you leave a message) or answering your emails, but they also ensure the right staff member is engaged to help with any questions you may have.

“We strive to make all our clients feel like the process was smooth and easy,” explains Mike. “Our team of experts takes them each step of the way, from initial conversations to design to installation. We take care of the whole process so our clients can have peace of mind throughout the process.”

They are such a strong team, that one happy customer went out of his way to visit the office and tell Mike in person that he was extremely pleased with the job and the fantastic team at Mike’s Landscaping.

“That was a special moment,” Mike recalls. “We were having a staff gathering and it meant so much to the whole team to see our client come by specifically to compliment the job we did.”

Mike’s Landscaping produces the type of customized service and “wow factor” landscaping that can vastly improve your property.
