Lake water requires expert water treatment

Can we drink the water?”That’s a question Eric Dube and Nicole Blanchet of Water Depot are often asked by people who draw their home or cottage water from a lake.

The answer is not quite simple: it’s both yes and no.

“It depends on where they are,” explains Eric. “Each lake is different. In fact, the water composition can even be quite varied from one end of a lake to the other. In most cases, lake water needs to go through a proper filtration and treatment system before it’s safe to drink.”

Eric and Nicole own Water Depot franchises in Bracebridge, Barrie, and Wasaga Beach. They are experts at finding customized water treatment and filtration solutions for homes and cottages throughout central Ontario.

Cottagers and homeowners drawing their water from a lake need to be concerned with tannins, sediments, iron, microorganisms, and pathogens. Though some lakes only have some of these potentially hazardous issues, others have all of them.

That’s why water treatment experts like the Water Depot team recommend a thorough test before installing any type of system. Eric and his team perform free consultations and testing as they can then provide accurate advice on your home or cottage water treatment needs.

“Water treatment does not have a one-size-fits-all solution,” says Eric. “To have the cleanest, safest, purest drinking water available, you need filtration and treatments for everything that could cause you health issues.”

For instance, UV light filtration is the right option for addressing microorganisms and pathogens that may be lurking in the water, but it doesn’t help take out tannins, sediments or iron.

“Tannins and sediments can even buildup in your UV system and make it ineffective, that’s why they need to first be removed before the UV light comes into effect,” says Eric. “In some cases, iron also needs to be removed as it can buildup and cause clogging as well. Not everyone needs every filtration or treatment, but it’s vital they are using the right ones.”

A proper water treatment and filtration system that is designed and installed by experienced professionals will eliminate the issues step-by-step to ensure what’s coming out of your taps is potable and tastes great
